Steve Briere will tell you he wasn’t much of a goaltender.

He played Division I NCAA hockey, and 10 years professionally bouncing between the Central Hockey League, the ECHL, the AHL, and Europe, but he was never all that good.

Due to that reality, he had to find other ways to be successful in hockey.

“If you read in the fine print of the contract in the ECHL it says ‘Only valid for 48 hours.’ And when you’re making $500 a week, $366 after taxes, living in Biloxi, Mississippi, there’s not a lot of money left at the end of the week,” Briere said from an auditorium at Humber College’s campus in Etobicoke, where he was a keynote speaker at TeamSnap’s annual coaches conference.
